When we face problems or challenges, it usually helps to talk things
over with someone. Most of us do this frequently with our family
and friends. Sometimes it's good to talk things through with the
pastor.
The pastor is trained in and does premarital, marital, substance
abuse and most other types of counseling. The pastor does this all
at no charge, since he is already paid by the church. This applies
to members and non-members alike.
Pastoral counseling is confidential. The pastor will not disclose
even to a spouse if he is counseling someone. He is required by
law to disclose to the proper authorities in some manner child abuse
involving a minor or to prevent bodily harm by the client. For example,
if someone came because of spouse abuse they have received, nothing
will be disclosed. However, if that person tells me that because
of the abuse they are going to harm someone that will be disclosed
in some manner.
The best way to start this process is by calling the pastor to
set up an appointment.
